How I Write

Over the past few months
I’ve thought about my legacy
The songs that I have written
What people expect of me

The thing that sticks out
What really makes me think
Is the content of those songs
And the rhymes that were weak

I could have spent more time
Fleshing out each melody
But I didn’t try to make them great
Cos I’m all about the quantity

Think of a concept
Write the first thoughts down
Focus on a violent chorus
Verses will work themselves out

Add a bridge or middle eight
Whatever it’s called in the United States
The emotion must be true
That’s how I write my songs for you

At times I have felt lost
About what folks beg from me
I’m not a soft little kitten
That you just pet and feed

When its all boiled down
My art is like a stiff drink
It makes you feel good alone
But sometimes its hard to sleep

I could have spent more time
Helping those around me
But I’m doomed to this fate
So many achievements crowning

I don’t need validation
I’m trying to seem vulnerable
For record sale inflation
